Health Surveillance & Screening

Keeping your workforce healthy, safe, and compliant with legislation can be challenging. Understanding which assessments are needed by law, how often they should be carried out, and which employees are affected is often complex. At Valentine OH, we simplify this process, helping you protect your people while staying compliant by offering a free OH Needs Assessment.

Health Surveillance

Health surveillance is a legal requirement in workplaces where employees are exposed to specific hazards — such as noise, vibration, dust, fumes, or chemicals — that could cause work-related ill health.

Why it matters:

  • Detects early signs of work-related ill health.
  • Ensures compliance with HSE regulations (e.g., COSHH, Noise at Work, Control of Vibration at Work).
  • Helps assess whether control measures are effective and protects employee wellbeing.

Our Health Surveillance Services:

  • Hand Arm Vibration Screening (HAVS) – for employees using vibrating tools or machinery.
  • Audiometry (Hearing Tests) – to detect early hearing loss caused by workplace noise exposure.
  • Spirometry (Lung Function Tests) – for employees exposed to dust, fumes, or airborne hazards.
  • Skin Surveillance – for those at risk of contact dermatitis or hazardous substance exposure.

Health Screening

Health screening is voluntary and focuses on general health and wellbeing, rather than work-related risk. It can be part of a preventive health programme to assess fitness for work or support employee wellbeing initiatives.

Types of Health Screening services we organise for clients:

  • New Starter or Pre-Placement Screening – questionnaire and face-to-face assessment
  • Night Workers Assessments – in line with the Working Times Directive
  • Fork Lift Truck (FLT) Medicals
  • Driver & HGV Medicals
  • Workstation DSE Medicals
  • Other Job-Specific Health Checks
  • Wellness Screens
  • Health Monitors – available to hire or purchase
  • Health Kiosks – available to hire or purchase
  • Executive Health Assessments – 20% discount on Nuffield Health and 25% discount on BUPA Wellness packages

We offer both proactive and legislative health screening services, ensuring all bases are covered. Screening packages can be tailored to wellness events, workplace programmes, or to give employees access to an annual health check-up.

Did You Know?

  • Around 12,000 workers in Great Britain suffer hearing problems caused or worsened by work each year.
  • Early detection of vibration syndrome, respiratory issues, or skin conditions prevents long-term illness and lost productivity.
  • More than 1 in 3 employees in industrial workplaces may be at risk of work-related ill health without proper monitoring.

How Valentine OH Can Help

We help organisations determine which type of programme is needed for each employee and role through a free OH Needs Assessment, carried out by our expert Clinicians in conjunction with our Clients Health & Safety or HR Teams. We will build a Health Surveillance Matrix, which will outline your mandatory and proactive services required by job role within the organisation. Whether you require risk-based health surveillance to meet legal obligations and avoid intervention by the HSE or voluntary health screening to support wellbeing, we design and implement a tailored programme that fits your business.

Take the first step towards a safer, healthier workforce – contact Valentine OH today to arrange a tailored assessment.
