Often confused with being a medical condition, dyslexia is a learning difficulty and one that is more common than you might have thought.
Dyslexia is widespread and affects some 10% of UK population. (Harris & Cooper 2005).
In 2004 that equated around 2.9million of the UK workforce as dyslexic. (Haga, 2004)
There has been a recent spike in the number of court claims involving dyslexia.
Difficulties that affect a dyslexic individual are typically:
- Reading, including speed accuracy and retention
- Writing structured letters or reports, particularly under time pressures
- Spelling
- Concentration and attention
- Organisational skills and time management
- Short term memory and following multiple instructions.
There are many consultancy and support groups to support employees that have Dyslexia or you believe may benefit from an assessment.
