Having been a Nurse since 1999, Vera has witnessed the changing faces of healthcare and adapted to the evolving work environments. Having to face the harsh working conditions of the pandemic, the extra shifts, and hard sacrifices, Vera has an endless tale of stories from her time as a nurse.
After interviewing Vera, she wanted to share her most memorable moments in her nursing career.
In a career marked by compassion and dedication, Vera’s journey as an orthopedic nurse is a testament to the profound impact healthcare professionals can have on the lives they touch. One touching moment in her career resonates deeply—a young man, his future uncertain after a life-altering car accident. Vera poured her heart into his care, navigating the challenges of rehabilitation, offering not just medical expertise, but a steady stream of encouragement and empathy.
Years later, fate led Vera to an unexpected encounter at the airport. There he was—the same young man, now walking with a confidence that defied the odds once stacked against him. His radiant smile mirrored the transformation he had undergone since the fateful accident. Recognising his former nurse, he expressed his gratitude, acknowledging the pivotal role she played in his recovery.
For Vera, this reunion was a poignant reminder of the profound ripple effect of a nurse’s work. Vera’s previous nursing and life experience helped shape her now current role as an Occupational Health Nurse. Her achievements of being on the specialist nursing register as well as deciding to re-validate her registration with the NMC to continue working after many years shows the kind of hard-working and dedicated person she is.
